Holy City at The Washington National Cathedral

Created by Brian Whelan for the Cathedral, Holy City is a series of nine paintings representing the three Abrahamic faiths: Christianity, Islam and Judaism. When displayed together, the panels create a work of art 9 x 12 feet.  The work will be displayed at The Cathedral from September 2016 to January 2017.  In this short video produced by the Cathedral, Brian talks about the inspirations for the work.

Go to Forthcoming Exhibitions for more information including details of the Reception on September 15th 2016 or download the press release here.

“He goes to dark, grim places, places that in the modern world we like to pretend don’t exist and when he gets there he cracks jokes. This work is the work of the medieval jester.”
Joe Horgan, Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award winner

''Clear, strong, prayerful work, with joy at its centre.''
Art critic Sister Wendy Beckett

"...Brian is an artist of great skill, depth, and integrity, informed by both medieval and contemporary sensibilities."

Rev. Dr Peter Doll, Canon Librarian, Norwich Cathedral.
